The United States Supreme Court’s 2015 Obergefell decision that families of same-sex couples are due equal treatment to those of opposite-sex couples has led to other important precedent regarding the rights of LGBTQ+ individuals including regarding parentage presumptions and parental rights generally, but Alabama’s legislature and courts have unfortunately remained hesitant to accept and/or recognize those in some instances.
